Check out our latest article, Developing Active Pro-Environmental Campaign Messaging: Variations in Belief Themes by Physical Activity and Pro-Environmental Behavior Participation published in Environment & Behavior.
The results indicate that participants prefer gain-framed or benefits-oriented messages relative to loss-framed content. We also found that even though belief themes varied by prior behavior, there were some similarities across all groups.
Next step - testing persuasive messages for changing behavior. Stay tuned!

Three of our team members presented their work with the PACE Lab at the 2026 Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Symposium (CURO).
The PACE Lab continues to work toward cleaner oceans and healthier outdoor spaces for everyone. We continue our Blue Gym of Georgia project as we test and refine our persuasive communications for promoting litter cleanup as a health-enhancing form of physical activity that also benefits the environment. Also, keep an eye out for big news coming from the PACE Lab on engaging more of our Georgia community in acknowledging, valuing, and advocating for the health benefits of spending time in nature! Now let’s get out there and pick up some trash!
Congrats to Grace Threadgill for having her work accepted for presentation at the 2025 American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Annual Meeting! She used the 24-hour activity cycle as a framework for analyzing the potential health benefits of substituting active time for sedentary time inside and outside of work.
Check out PACE Lab member Abby Huggins alongside Blue Gym collaborator, Yidi Wang from the University of California Santa Barbara, presenting at the 2024 National Communication Association’s Annual Convention (NCA) in New Orleans. Their session focused solely on student author contributors – so cool! Abby has been working on the Blue Gym project since our initial data collection efforts. We’re thrilled that she’s able to see the project through to this point. Congrats Abby!
