The latest publication from the Blue Gym project presenting the results from two studies: 1) Participants with past participation combining outdoor physical activity and litter cleanup generated more beliefs about the benefits and barriers for this behavior, and 2) beliefs that were centered around benefits were more consistently related to future behavioral intentions with the most promising messaging campaign themes varying based on past participation in physical activity, litter cleanup, or the combination of behaviors.
This article summarizes an elicitation study used to identify salient beliefs about combining outdoor physical activity with litter cleanup among coastal US residents. Belief statements that focused on individual physical and mental health benefits were most common and promising for increasing participation in this prosocial form of multiple behavior change.
